The Propane-Powered Vision®:

Blue Bird recently launched the Propane-Powered Vision Bus, which is a fully integrated and purpose-built Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) bus, engineered to the same exacting standards as other Blue Bird products. This product is the first dedicated propane-powered school bus offered by a major manufacturer in the United States since 2002 and is also available for activity/MFSAB applications. The bus is powered by a Ford 6.8L Engine with ROUSH CleanTech liquid propane autogas fuel system™.

Blue Bird was the first major school bus manufacturer to offer CNG as a fuel option in a full-size bus in 1991, and has offered CNG buses continuously ever since. Today, Blue Bird remains committed to furthering CNG as a school bus fuel option. Blue Bird’s current CNG offering consists of the Transit-style Type D All American Rear Engine powered by the Cummins ISL CNG engine.

The Bi-fuel Propane system for cutaways is from American Alternative Fuels, available for gasoline engine. The system includes an under the vehicle (between the rails) fuel tank and an engine conversion kit. The system is installed on a completed vehicle by Mor-Ryde in the chassis state. This is a Prins Propane Injection System, using vapor injection into the engine. By injecting the LPG the same way as petrol, there is no more difference between driving on petrol or LPG. Average tank 22.4 gallons.

Pro's: Range, Size - very compact, very clean fuel, less expensive than crude oil, available fuel with little expense. Can be disabled or not used.

The dedicated CNG system for small cutaways built on the E350 is from BAF Technologies, available for the 5.4L gasoline engine. The system includes under and above fuel tanks and an engine conversion kit. The system is installed on a completed vehicle by BAF prior to delivery to the customer. Closed fuel system with 20-25 gasoline gallon equivalent. OBD-2 compliant (the PCN is reprogrammed to run on CNG system)

Pro's: Dedicated system, not required components removed, very clean fuel, less expensive than crude oil, available fuel. CARB Certified.
